Worth knowing
01We have not appointed a quantity surveyor yet. Is that a problem?
No. It is often better to talk before the cost consultant is appointed, because the conversation about what the project actually is tends to get harder once a budget has been written down.
02Can you look at a building we have not bought yet?
Yes, and this is some of the most useful work we do. A short paid feasibility study before exchange has talked several clients out of a purchase and saved considerably more than it cost.
03Do you do competition entries?
Rarely, and only where the competition is paid at a level that covers the work. Unpaid open competitions are a transfer of risk from client to practice and we have stopped entering them.
